There’s a certain right of passage that occurs in most Western cultures once a person becomes over the age of 18 years. They wake up one morning, look themselves in the mirror and ask:

“Why do I have to work in order to financially support myself?”

And so, as many of their millennial brothers and sisters have done before them, they log onto Google and search for ways to make money… without really having to do any work.

The first thing that’s going to come up as a result of this search is: become a Youtuber. How do you think I got where I am now?

But, should you make it to the second search result — before you decide to drop out of school, buy a camera and talk to yourself for a living — you will come across “become a sugar baby”.

Now, if you don’t know what a sugar baby is: let me explain. A sugar baby is someone, usually a younger person, that enters into a consensual and adult arrangement with an older person. This older person, typically a man (a sugar daddy), is incredibly wealthy and provides financial aid to said sugar baby in return for companionship. For example, a sugar daddy may give a monthly ‘allowance’, they may pay for rent. Sometimes there may be sexual elements to these arrangements, and sometimes there are not, but these arrangements are very clear to never advertise sex as a condition for financial reward.

But, I wanted to know just how legitimate these arrangements were. I’ve seen copious news articles throughout the years highlighting the extravagant lives of young women earning six-figures a year for simply keeping rich, old men company. Is this the norm? Or simply a sensationalised headline?

And so, with full approval from my boyfriend, I signed up to a sugar baby website to learn the truth for myself.

I joined the most popular sugar daddy/sugar baby website called “Seeking”. Seeking stands for seeking arrangement and it’s an online community, kind of like a dating site, for successful professionals to meet younger people who need financial support or who want…
